Whitefish Township Community Schools Enters Secure Mode as Precautionary Measure
We want to make families aware that today, Whitefish Township Community Schools entered SECURE status due to a law enforcement situation occurring within the surrounding community.
Out of an abundance of caution and on the recommendation of the Sheriff’s Office, we initiated our Secure protocol. During a Secure, all students and staff remain safely inside the building, exterior doors are locked, and normal activities continue inside the school.
At no time was there a threat inside our school, nor were our students or staff believed to be in immediate danger. This precaution was taken to ensure everyone remained safely inside while law enforcement handled the situation in the community.
We understand that situations like this can be concerning for families. Please know that the safety of our students and staff is always our highest priority, and we will continue to follow the guidance of law enforcement and our established safety procedures.
We appreciate the cooperation of our students and staff and the understanding of our families.
Secure Mode was lifted once officials confirmed it was safe to do so.

🏈 **WTCS ATHLETICS REMINDER** 🏐🏀⛳🏃
The **2026-2027 athletic season** is just around the corner!
If your student plans to participate in **Volleyball, Basketball, Golf, Cross Country, or Track & Field**, they **must have a current MHSAA Sports Physical on file before they are eligible to participate in practices or competitions.** Grades 6-12
📅 **A valid sports physical must be completed on or after April 15, 2026, to be accepted for the 2026-2027 school year.**
Please don't wait until the last minute! Schedule your student's appointment now to ensure they're ready for the first day of practice.
✅ Turn completed physical forms in to the WTCS office before practices begin.

A special congratulations goes to our four students who earned all A's for the entire school year: Delilah Doke, Andy Fryling, Malina Mills, and Mary Verkennes. This outstanding accomplishment reflects countless hours of effort, perseverance, and determination.

Our Water/Field Games will begin at 1:00 PM on the last day of school!
Please make sure your student brings:
💦 A school-appropriate swimsuit or clothes that can get wet
🧺 A towel
🛍️ A plastic bag for wet clothes
Parents and family members are welcome to join us for the fun! Feel free to arrive as early as 12:45 PM.
🚌 Afternoon Bus Route Reminder
We will have a substitute bus driver for the afternoon route on the last day of school so that Miss Peggy can join our end-of-year staff celebration and the retirement celebration for her husband, Geoff Moore.
The afternoon route will be driven by Mr. Jason Hoornstra using a Brimley Area Schools (Road Runner) bus.
The bus will make the following stops:
• Eckerman
• Hulbert
• Newberry
Miss Mills contacted affected families a couple of weeks ago to make arrangements, but we wanted to send a reminder that this change is taking place and that a Brimley Area Schools bus will be completing the route.
We are looking forward to a fun-filled day as we celebrate another great year at Whitefish Township Community Schools! 💙🚀

4/17-NO SCHOOL- Professional Development day
4/18- Volleyball at OCS. athletes need to be there for 9:30, they play OCS at 10 and then they play Munising Baptist at 11. We were just informed there will be no concession.
4/20- was supposed to be a JV track meet. That is cancelled and will now be practice for JV and Varsity 3:30-5:00.

Update: At 10:43 AM, we entered secure mode due to a direct threat impacting Sault Area Schools, including CTE. We came out of secure mode at 12:26 PM. All students remained safe and are now on their way home.
We extend our sincere thanks to Sault Area Schools administration, SRO Fruchy, CTE driver Ms. Planck, and all law enforcement personnel for their swift response and continued support in keeping our students and staff safe.

At 10:43 am, our school resource officer informed us of a directed threat towards SAULT AREA SCHOOLS. She recommended that Whitefish Township Community School proceed in secure mode. That means no one in or out of the building. If the situation changes, she will inform us with a new recommendations immediately.
No threats, direct or otherwise, mentioned anything regarding Whitefish Township Community Schools, its students, or its staff.

Tomorrow kicks off the start of Track Practice and Elementary Basketball Practice. Practices will run from 3:30–5:30 PM.
