Job Posting: Maintenance Position Summary:
The Maintenance employee is responsible for ensuring the school building and grounds are maintained in a clean, sanitary, safe, and orderly condition in accordance with district and industry standards.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, scrub, and refinish floors.

  • Clean, dust, and polish furniture; wash windows and walls; clean restrooms; dispose of rubbish.

  • Change light bulbs and perform other routine upkeep tasks.

  • Maintain school building cleanliness inside and out, including litter pickup on grounds.

  • Ensure safety during inclement weather (shoveling, salting, wet floor protection, wind damage security, snow removal, clearing downspouts, etc.).

  • Apply cleaning chemicals safely according to procedures.

  • Follow safety guidelines for cleaning, lifting, moving, and operating equipment.

  • Perform minor repairs and maintenance as authorized by district staff.

  • Remove dirt/markings from walls, doors, and other surfaces.

  • Perform minor painting on walls, rails, playgrounds, and other school areas.

  • Maintain and repair custodial equipment.

  • Submit and track maintenance service requests.

  • Manage inventory of cleaning supplies and request replacements as needed.

  • Monitor energy usage and suggest energy-saving methods.

  • Secure equipment, supplies, and facilities to prevent loss, theft, or damage.

  • Inspect facilities and equipment regularly to detect and prevent issues.

  • Ensure proper building security at all times.

  • Verify emergency equipment is maintained and functional.

  • Assist with emergency planning and response.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.

  2. Successful experience working with families, communities, and maintaining a positive public image.

  3. Certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED required.

  4. Strong communication skills and ability to work cooperatively with staff, vendors, contractors, and public entities.

  5. Ability to work effectively in environments with frequent interruptions while maintaining accuracy and prioritization.

  6. Self-motivated with sound judgment and decision-making abilities.

  7. Knowledge of state and local codes related to maintenance, including OSHA and MSDS regulations.

  8. Valid Michigan driver’s license with a safe driving record; ability to operate district vehicles.

Schedule & Pay

  • Hours: 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday (3 hrs/day, 15 hrs/week)

  • Rate of Pay: $20.00/hour

  • Work Year: 190 days (flex scheduling on non-school days and after extracurricular events)

Superintendent (Annual evaluations will be conducted)
